Synopsis
The film is inspired by the life of Wang Zhaojun (circa 52–19 BCE), one of the legendary Four Great Beauties of ancient China. During the Han Dynasty, she volunteered to marry the Xiongnu chieftain Huhanye in a heqin (peace marriage) alliance, bringing decades of stability to the northern frontier. Her story symbolizes sacrifice for national peace and has been immortalized in poetry, opera, and folklore.
